Great things to do on the Cote d'Azur - Beaulieu sur Mer Day Trip

When searching for great things to do on the Cote d’Azur it’s tough to beat a beach day in Beaulieu sur Mer. Literally translating to beautiful place by the sea, Beaulieu Sur Mer is little piece of paradise on the French Riviera. A tiny seaside village nestled in between Nice and Monaco, (minus the tourist hoards that ravage them both!) We set up camp at the Anao Plage beach club for a lazy day beachside. This place is well equipped with all you could need for the perfect beach day; great food, crisp rosé on ice and some super friendly staff to keep those glasses topped up.

To do:

Swim! Beaulieu Sur Mer has two stunning beaches; Plage Petite Afrique and the Plage Des Fourmis. This is where you find those tranquil azure blue waters that postcards are made of. It is beautifully refreshing in the summer, without sending you into hypothermic shock like other Mediterranean beaches. Speaking of beaches, this one actually has sand! A welcome relief from scaling the pebbly shores of other French Riviera hot spots.

To eat:

Trying to keep it light and reluctant to move from our luxurious sun lounges we kept to a light snack but still, when by the sea, eat seafood! The salmon toast with delicious French butter is the perfect bite to pair with that rosé. The Anao Plage offer an extensive menu of local delights in their sit down restaurant section located behind the deck chairs with an unbeatable view of the beach.

To drink:

If we haven’t mentioned it enough, in the South of France the summertime drink of choice is a local drop of rosé. The Provence region is famous for it’s rosé wines and this blush coloured delicacy is perfectly refreshing on those 30C +days! The Plage Anao have an extensive wine list available starting from a fairly reasonable (by French Riviera standards) €29 and up.

Getting There:

Beaulieu sur Mer has a train station only 10 minutes walk from the beach. Trains run regularly from Nice and Monaco.

If you have your own wheels, the drive from Nice to Beaulieu is a treat and takes only 20-30 minutes depending on traffic. Be sure to stop halfway by the roadside for a snap of neighbouring Villefranche sur Mer and take a look through the happiest viewfinders in the world at the glittering bay below.
